The international plastics and rubber trade show, CHINAPLAS 2026, will be held from April 21 to 24, 2026, at the National Exhibition and Convention Center (NECC) in Shanghai, China. With an exhibition area exceeding 390,000 square meters, the event will gather more than 5,000 exhibitors from around the world.
Setting a new record for its largest edition, CHINAPLAS 2026 will spotlight four key themes: Circular Economy, Digitalization, Innovative Materials, and China’s High-end Technologies. This article highlights the key aspects to watch at the upcoming show.
Global Giants and "Specialized and Niche (Little Giant)" Enterprises
CHINAPLAS 2026 will feature global industry leaders such as BASF, SABIC, Toray, and KraussMaffei. Meanwhile, over 1,000 Specialized and Niche Chinese enterprises—recognized by the Chinese government—will also exhibit.
A major highlight among these 1,000+ Chinese companies is the participation of nearly 200 national "Little Giant" companies, certified by the Chinese government as elite SMEs with high technological capabilities and market share in specific niche fields.
This marks the largest collective appearance of such enterprises in CHINAPLAS history. Backed by unique technological capabilities and cost competitiveness in specific fields, many of these homegrown innovators are actively expanding overseas. For global buyers seeking supply chain diversification, they are likely to attract attention as new cost-effective supplier options.

The theme zones for raw materials will gather more than 1,900 chemical and raw materials suppliers. They will showcase a vast array of the latest solutions, ranging from general and engineering plastics, pigments and masterbatches, and additives to composites and specialty materials, elastomers, rubber, bioplastics, and recycled plastics.
LG Chem will exhibit its biaxially oriented polyethylene (BOPE) film, which achieves high stiffness and transparency as a mono-material, enabling easier packaging recycling. Orinko will launch long-chain nylon materials for drone shells and key components, reducing weight while maintaining structural rigidity and enhancing endurance.
Innovative Materials for Frontier Sectors Like New Energy Vehicles and Humanoid Robots
Serving as a showcase for "New Productive Forces," the exhibition will highlight innovative materials for emerging sectors and smart equipment integrated with AI technologies.
In the materials sector, specialty engineering plastics, high-performance composite fibers, and thermoplastic elastomers will be prominently displayed for applications such as new energy vehicles, humanoid robots, drones, and aerospace.
BASF will introduce solid-state battery pack materials that contribute to vehicle lightweighting and optimized thermal management. Covestro will showcase polycarbonate solutions that enable humanoid robots to maintain agility and withstand complex physical interactions for stable operation.
In the equipment sector, the deep integration of traditional processing machinery with AI and digital technologies is accelerating. Solutions such as Chen Hsong’s iChen™ Cloud Intelligent Manufacturing Operation and Management Platform and JC Times’ integrated Intelligent Precision Die will be on display, demonstrating how AI significantly enhances production efficiency and precision.

Circular Economy Across the Value Chain
The zone dedicated to recycling-related products and technologies will bring together more than 120 suppliers. Exhibits will showcase physical recycling, AI-driven sorting technologies, and closed-loop solutions for the high-value recycling of waste plastics.
Avient will display bio-based thermoplastic elastomers containing 40–50% renewable content derived from sugarcane. Additionally, TOMRA will unveil its AUTOSORT™ intelligent sorting machine, which utilizes AI to extract high-purity resins from mixed waste streams. Utilizing near-infrared (NIR) and visible (VIS) detection, the system delivers rapid and accurate identification and separation of materials by type and color attributes.
